I love it when Yeezy isn’t in a million dollar car doing donuts around a racetrack. After his video for “Runaway”, I felt like he took the bar for what a hip-hop video has the potential to be, and threw it over the moon. I wanted all of his videos to be like that. “Lost In The World” is the first video of his that I’ve liked since then.

Yeezy teamed up with SHOWstudio.com director Ruth Hogben for this video. Ruth got her start editing films for renowned photographer Nick Knight and later blossomed into her own and has now directed films for Ungaro, Gareth Pugh, and even Lady Gaga.

I love how the video used interpretive dance, fast-flying skylines, and flying through the clouds to show how one can be lost in the world. The cinematography is quick but the concepts are minimal. Fashion films are something that I want to start doing more of, so it’s been fun for me to study them and get lost online.

Last we left off, I had just left a party at one of ATL’s best shoe boutique’s Epitome, and was now on my way to a 2nd year anniversary party for the2econdfloor.com. The theme of this party was 1950s/60s and and it was held on April 20th … so the name of the party, appropriately enough, was HIGH SOCIETY. 50′s & 60′s was such a tough era for me to do. I mean, what were guys mainly known for wearing back then besides suits? I searched around the internet and Googled things like “1950′s counterculture” to see if anything cool popped up. I could go as one of the kids from Grease, but who hasn’t done that already? In the end I borrowed a Mad Men type hat from a friend and called it a day. It worked out well for me.

My friend Corey Bertrand and his team from The 2econd Floor did an amazing job with this party. First off the location was gorgeous! The Wimbish House is a Victorian Era home that was owned by a prominent family and built by one of Atlanta’s premiere architects at the time, W.T. Downing. The party was catered and had an open bar. Not to mention, it was hosted by the fabulous Barry Brandon, and had a line-up of musical acts who performed songs from the 50s & 60s. Everyone danced, and judging from everyone’s outfits, they were eager to show up in theme.

Winner of "Best Outfit". Everyone called her Shug Avery.

2 great parties on 1 beautiful Spring night. What more could a boy ask for?

My social calendar seems to have sped up in the last week, which isn’t such a bad thing considering how much of a hermit I’ve been lately. On Friday night I attended 2 parties, each thrown by industry friends that I love to support. The first was at a shoe boutique called Epitome, in Buckhead. (You might remember when I went to their grand opening a while back.) Their event, epitome x Reebok “It Takes A Lot To Make A Classic”, featured 3 graphic artists who customized newly purchased kicks, all while Martina McFly spun music and G.O.O.D. Music artist Cyhi Da Prince “hosted”.

Before attending either of the parties though, I had to stop by my friend Jordan Richardson Steede’s place to pick up the pièce de résistance for my “look of the evening”. He has an accessory line called Theorem that is amazing!

I think that the title “host” is used a bit loosely by people in my generation. A “host” is someone who makes their presence known at the party. They mix, they mingle, they introduce themselves to people they’ve never met, and introduce strangers to someone who they need to know. They take a moment to grab everyone’s attention, thank them for coming out, let them know what’s going on at the moment & what’s going on next. Both times I’ve been to epitome parties, the “hosts” have been people with notariety who completely blend in with everyone else. They would be much better off with the title of “Special Guest”.

Luckily I’m a pretty social person and I met everyone who I needed to meet on my own. My Theorem harness was naturally a great conversation piece, but how could one not talk about how dope the shoes were that were being customized by these amazing graphic artists?! This event was the perfect blend of art melding with fashion & music.

I have to give credit where credit is due, and as far as shoe boutiques in Atlanta go, for men, epitome is in the top 2. For women, it’s #1. They didn’t have any of the women’s heels out because of the nature of the event, but whenever girls ask me where they can go to step their shoe game up, I tell them to run (don’t walk) to Epitome.

 After having a couple cocktails and playing the business card blitz, I said my goodbye’s and made my way to event #2. Stay tuned for G.O.O.D. Nights part 2 to see how I got down Mad Men style at the2econdfloor.com‘s 2 year anniversary party.

Yes, take a good look them. You’ve all seen them before. As a matter fact, I bet a handful of you have a few pairs sitting on your dresser. Maybe on your bathroom counter? You’ve seen them calling your name from that shelf at your favorite beauty supply store. Then you heard them beckon you again as you walked past the Chinese man’s accessory kart in the middle of the mall. But ladies, let me take this moment to inform you (because obviously nobody else has) that what you see on an episode of Basketball Wives or Real Housewives of Atlanta is NOT. FASHION.

 When Hood Hoops were first introduced, they were smaller. The one’s the admittedly caught my eye were the ones with the spikes. I thought, “Those might be cool to hang from one ear.” This was at a time when I was throwing parties was always looking for something to spice up an outfit. It was also nearly 9 months ago, before the Hood Hoop blew up. And blow up is exactly what they did.

See I would've thrown a gold spike Hood Hoop in one ear w this party outfit just for the hell of it. But this was 8 MONTHS AGO! Before the plague was REAL.

In a matter of months, Hood Hoops have gone from damn near non-existent, to an epidemic. Before they were popular, you could find nice ones. The kinds made with real crystals. But since then, they’ve been duplicated with piss poor quality, and what seems to zero effort put into making them look cute. They just keeping getting bigger and uglier. And the bigger and uglier they get, the more people seem to buy them. I’m convinced that the girls from Basketball Wives wear them because they can be snatched out easily when they get into fisticuffs.

Why, when there are a million options of earrings to choose from, do so many people choose to be a part of the sheep’s herd, instead of picking something unique that matches THEIR personal style?

It’s been a while since a party has come along that I’ve been excited about. Thankfully, my friends over at the2econdfloor.com are throwing a soiree that is surely not to be missed!

From the2econdfloor.com:

The2econdfloor.com will be bringing 50′s & 60′s back with a fun night of cocktails, music, and fashion.

You can’t turn on your television, go to the movies, or open up a fashion magazine without seeing how the style of the 1950s and 1960′s has been re-emerging. Keeping that in mind, the2econdfloor.com will pay homage to those days by combining the era’s fashion & music, and throwing a themed party you won’t soon forget.

The nights entertainment will be provided by 6 local artists (accompanied by a live band) who will each perform a few hits from the 50s & 60s. Performers include Eudora Jade, Apollo Levine, Jordan Antonia, Josh McNeal, Jae Michelle, and Jean Kelley. The event will be hosted by The 2econdfloor’s Corey Bertrand and local favorite Barry Brandon.

We will also have DJ Rocky spinning a mix of the old & the new.

Complimentary Hors D’Oeuvres & Drinks will be served.

1950′s/60s INSPIRED attire is required.

WHEN: FRIDAY, APRIL 20TH 2012

TIME: 8PM – 11PM

The party will also serve as the 2nd anniversary for the Atlanta fashion & art blog, The2econdFloor.com. The blog spotlights the stylish and creative individuals of the city, and  it’s local designers, musicians, and artists.

Don’t ask me why, but I’ve hardcore been on this mixtape tip lately & it’s been all hip-hop! Which is weird bc when Spring comes around I’m usually all like bubble, pop, electric. I blame it on my stay in Brooklyn for the whole month of February.

It started with T.I.’s “F*ck da City Up” which was great when I was running and working out hardcore. Then it moved to Rick Ross “Rich Forever” for like 2 seconds. uuughhhh. Of course I keep my homegirl Speakerfoxxx in constant rotation. And now I’m stuck on Red Cafe’s “Hells Kitchen” like I know him or something. All hood shit.

Thank God local dj, Jay Envy sent me some new stuff to check out last night. His new mixtape, “The Booty Workout Plan” is 30 minutes of pure electro booty bass hip-hop realness. Think 404 meets 305. I was re-bleaching my hair last night and trying to get stuff done for my magazine, but before I knew it I was up twerkin so hard, you woulda thought rent was due.

So next time you’re gettin ready to go out, work out, or just burn off some steam around the house, press play, let it marinate for a couple minutes, and sizzle. Thank me later.

"Fashion Bomber of the Day: Tomik from Atlanta"

There’s a section called “Fashion Bombshell of the Day” where she picks fashionable girls from around the world to feature everyday. Anyways, I sent in some pics and told her that she should mix things up and choose a dude for once… and lo & behold I got picked!

Go read it and check out the EIGHTY-NINE comments my page has gotten so far! About 1/2 of them are haters, but some of the comments are pretty funny. And guess what?

Discalaimer: Haters aren’t ppl that don’t like my style. I don’t like a lot of what I see ppl wearing on the street, and you are certainly entitled not to like mine. I mean let’s be honest, I’m a lot to take in sometimes… most times. Haters are the one’s who are ugly about it. Homophobic, small-minded comments and the like. Those are intolerable. k thx.

On a lighter note, I am the 1st person to laugh at myself, and I’ve even considered doing a “Tomik’s Worst Dressed” blog in the future. Bc sometimes I look back at my pictures and go, “What in the HELL was I thinking?” lol. But one comment that had me dying laughing was a girl who compared one of my outfits to this…
